BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge has denied a request to expand a lawsuit filed by former students who say they were sexually molested by a long-time teacher. The judge says the lawsuit against former Shelby County teacher Daniel Acker and the school board can still continue and others can pursue individual claims.

CAMDEN, Ala. (AP) - A gigantic alligator caught in Alabama earlier this month has set a Safari Club International world record. AL.com reports a pair of master measurers from Safari Club International examined the 1,000-pound alligator yesterday. The verdict: It's 15-feet, 9-inches long.

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit lawyer for Rosa Parks' heirs says the purchase price for hundreds of items that belonged to the civil rights icon is $4.5 million. A foundation ran the son of billionaire investor Warren Buffett bought the collection. Howard Buffett has confirmed the purchase but declined to disclose the price.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Motorists will see lower prices at the pumps this holiday weekend. AAA of Alabama reports the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.20. That's 14 cents less than at the same time last year. Birmingham has the state's most expensive gas at $3.23 a gallon for regular. Tuscaloosa is cheapest at $3.13.
