Meteorologist Harmony Mendoza joined us from WRBL News 3 in Columbus, Ga., a sister station of Alabama's 13. You can watch Harmony every weekend on Alabama's 13 for your morning weather from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Harmony is a graduate of Florida State University and Mississippi State University, with majors in meteorology and geography and minors in physics and mathematics.
Harmony is from Tampa, Fla., but she has been forecasting in the Deep South for 10 years now. She's spent most of her life watching tropical systems develop across the peninsula. Living in Florida has given her an advantage toward monitoring developing tropical weather 24/7. Weather has always been a large part of her life, and Florida has lots of it! However, nothing compares to what Harmony and her weather team witnessed on April 27, 2011. Alabama will never be the same, and that goes for Harmony, as well. The state has been forever changed and the way we prepare for severe weather is now front-and-center in most Alabamians' minds. That's why Harmony focuses on serving the community; to better serve those who may need more information on how to keep them and their families safe when severe weather strikes.
Harmony enjoys going to area schools and talking to kids about how awareness can make a difference when severe weather threatens. Her hobbies include singing, fishing, concerts and all things sports -- but mostly spending time with her family and wonderful husband.
