It's hard to believe that it wasn't Stephanie Walker's first-hand experience with a devastating volcano, Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines, that intrigued her to pursue a career in weather. It wasn't the amazing, yet unusual, orange lightning that was a product of the volcano, or even the excitement of a typhoon that made landfall as the volcano erupted. Not even the relentless earthquakes that she and her family endured for days led her to a future in weather. It was simply her love for flying. By obtaining her private pilot's license, Stephanie realized just how important accurate forecasts are, convincing her to learn as much as she could about the science.
Stephanie graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University and has obtained the American Meteorological Society's Television Seal of Approval. She comes to Alabama's 13 from Florida's Newschannel where she worked as a meteorologist for two years. Prior to that Stephanie was a meteorologist at WYOU in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Stephanie enjoys going to area schools, businesses and organizations to recognize dedication and hard work by featuring them in her Weather Welcome. Stephanie's favorite place to escape to is the beautiful beaches in the Florida panhandle. Click here to read Alabama's 13's Weather Blog.
