Lisa Crane's Magic City Moms: My Baby's TV Debut

I hope you all were watching the midday show on Thursday, July 7th, 2011, but if you didn't...you missed my baby's television debut.

Cruz's K-4 class came to the station for a tour...all 17 of them!  It's the youngest group we've ever had here during the midday show and it could've easily gone south.  But the kids were so well behaved...all thanks to the great teachers/chaperones from his school.

The most fun part of the trip for the kids might have been the big yellow school bus ride up Red Mountain to Alabama's 13 News.  My son, and I'm sure all the kids, is enamoured with school buses.  I think its because he knows the "big kids" ride on them.  But, then we showed them the big green board where Stephanie Walker does her weather forecasts and that was pretty cool too.  Each child got to stand in front of the board and see how its "magic" works and produces graphics behind her that you can only see through the tv.

At the end of the show, we took a shot of the group and let them wave to their families who were hopefully watching at home, or taping for future viewing.  Cruz sat in my lap on the set for the last few seconds of the show.  He even got a few words in when he interrupted me to ask for a cracker, which was pretty cute I must admit.

As they were leaving one little boy seemed upset.  When I asked him what was wrong he said, "I didn't see my grandmother waving back at me."  I tried to explain that in tv, we can't see the people who see us, but I don't think he got it.  Hopefully his grandmother told  him later that she was, in fact, waving at him.

Cruz got to stay with me after the newscast and ride home with me.  I asked him on the way out if he liked being on tv and he said he did.  but when I asked him if he wanted to be on tv everyday when he grows up, like mommy, he said no.  I wasn't bothered by that at all...I'm hoping medical school is in his future.  But whatever makes him happy is ok with me...as long as he can afford to support me in my old age!
