The youth minister at “The Basement” charged with impersonating a police officer accepted a plea deal this morning.
This morning’s plea deal downgraded Larry Matthew Pitt’s charges to one misdemeanor count of attempting to impersonate a police officer.
After the May 11 arrest, Pitt was initially charged with one count of impersonating a police officer and one count of obstruction of justice, both of which are felonies.
He received a 12-month suspended sentence and two years of unsupervised probation for the misdemeanor charge. Pitt was also ordered to pay court costs and to give an open apology in court.
In court, he said he was sorry for the trouble he caused the county and the Calera Police Department. He praised the Calera Police Department for its professionalism during the arrest, and said the experience itself and the days since the arrest have helped him to reach youth and grow personally in many ways.
