Blog: Heisman Trophy Projection Week Six

By Patrick Pierce

The Heisman trophy is one of the most sought after awards in all of sports, it’s an elite fraternity made up of what is considered to be the top players in college football. So who will the Heisman Trust invite to New York in 2012?

What we know week six:

Heisman leader Geno Smith continues to put on a show. This week’s numbers versus Texas was not as video game like as last week’s versus Baylor, but Smith’s 4 touchdown passes and leading his team to victory at Texas was huge.

EJ Manuel and Aaron Murry were sitting in a prime spot to jump to the top of the leader board if Geno Smith messed up, but that is no longer the case. Both Manuel and Murry put up sluggish numbers and failed to lead their teams.

Collin Klein has become Mr. Reliable. His numbers are not eye catching, but he is the backbone of his undefeated Wildcats.

These projections will evolve throughout the season as they battle it out on the gridiron.

Projected Top Five:

  1. Geno Smith QB, West Virginia: Completed %71.4 of his passes for 268 yards and 4 touchdowns versus Texas.

  1. Collin Klein QB, Kansas State: Passed for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed for 116 yards adding 2 more touchdowns versus Kansas.

  1. Matt Barkley QB, USC: Completed %76.7 of his passes for 303 yards and 3 touchdowns versus Utah.
