The 50th anniversary of the Birmingham Civil Rights Movement is just around the corner.

It officially gets underway in 2013, however to get the momentum started, Mayor William Bell announced plans to commemorate the milestone through the '50 Years Forward' Campaign. The aim is to honor the city's history and to celebrate its future.

Philips Academy students in Birmingham were some of the first testers of the new website, 50yearsforward.com, which will also be unvieled.

The website chronicles pivotal moments in Birmingham's Civil Rights past.

Mayor Bell says the website is an education tool for all ages.

"As I stressed to the children here today it's not just looking back 50 years, it's looking forward 50 years to find out what tools we need to give these young people so that they can be successful," said Bell.
