The Heisman trophy is one of the most sought after awards in all of sports, it’s an elite fraternity made up of what is considered to be the top players in college football. So who will the Heisman Trust invite to New York in 2012?

What we know.

Collin Klein is hurt! We don’t know the full extent of his injury or how much he will be limited, but if it becomes nagging it could become a factor in the race.

AJ McCarron had his “Heisman moment” in what is being called “The Drive” down in Death Valley. McCarron’s numbers are not of a typical Heisman candidate this late in the season, but his high efficacy ranting and zero picks will go along way in defending his numbers.

Before the season everyone thought that De’Anthony Thomas was the Heisman candidate from Oregon, but Kenjon Barner is staring make a major run for the Heisman.

These projections will evolve throughout the season as they battle it out on the gridiron.

Projected Top Five:

  1. Collin Klein QB, Kansas State: Completed %72.7 of his passes for 245 yards and rushed for 64 yards adding 1 rushing touchdown versus Oklahoma State.

  1. Kenjon Barner RB, Oregon: Rushed for 321 yards on 38 carries for 5 touchdowns versus USC.

  1. AJ McCarron QB, Alabama: Completed %51.9 of his passes for 165 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 rushing touchdown versus LSU.

  1. Manti Te’o LB, Notre Dame: 7 tackles, and a ½ sack versus Pitt.

  1. Braxton Miller QB, Ohio State: Passed for 226 yards with 2 touchdowns plus rushed for 73 yards and 1 touchdown versus Illinois.

Just outside the Top 5:

  • Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M: Passed for 311 yards plus 129 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.
  • EJ Manuel QB, Florida State: OFF

The Dark Horses:

  • Aaron Murray QB, Georgia
  • Tajh Boyd QB, Clemson
  • Teddy Bridgwater QB, Louisville
  • Geno Smith QB, West Virginia
