Blog: Top Ten Games of the Week

It’s rivalry week!

The Iron Bowl is a little down this year with Auburn entering with a (3-8) record, but it’s still the Iron Bowl. Other big time rivalries will be taking place all across the nation including 6 games between ranked teams.

Here are my Top Ten Games of Week 13:

10.  Mississippi State @ Ole Miss – Saturday – 6pm CST – ESPN-U

The Egg Bowl has a little more meaning this year for Ole Miss. The (5-6) Rebels are looking for their all important 6th win and a trip to a bowl game.

9.  #3 Georgia vs. Georgia Tech – Saturday – 11:00am CST – ESPN

The Bulldogs have to win this game to stay relevant in the national picture. Last week the dogs played the triple option offense of Georgia Southern to get ready for the Tech attack. I think it will help, but I don’t think it will matter because Georgia will be too strong for Tech.

 8. #13 Oklahoma vs. #21 Oklahoma State – Saturday – 2:30pm CST – ESPN

Bedlam is one of the biggest rivalries in college football, and I think it’s safe to say that the Sooners will be looking for a little revenge after the beat down they received last year.

7. #2 Alabama vs. Auburn – Saturday – 2:30pm CST – CBS

The Iron Bowl is the greatest rivalry not just in college football, but maybe in all of sports. This year the game doesn’t seem to have the national hype because Auburn is down, but as the old saying goes in the Iron Bowl you can throw out the record books.

6.  #19 Michigan @ #4 (AP) Ohio State – Saturday – 11:00am CST – ABC

This is by far the biggest rivalry game north of the Mason Dixon Line. Ohio State is un-beaten and still in hopes of earning an AP National Championship. The Wolverines have showed some positive flashes, but they still lack the physical type play that they need to stand toe to toe with Ohio State

5. #12 South Carolina @ #11 Clemson – Saturday – 6:00pm CST – ESPN

Number 11 versus number 12 is a big game, but throw in the fact that it’s between hated rivals and then it becomes huge. Bragging rights are always important but I think this game might mean a little more to Clemson who is still trying to nab an at large BCS berth.

 4. #5 Oregon @ #15 Oregon State – Saturday – 2:00pm CST – Pac 12 Network

The Ducks title hopes were shot down when Stanford hit the field goal to win in overtime, but the Ducks can still get back in it with a little luck. They will have to take care of business first in the Civil War with Oregon State. If they do beat the scrappy Beavers the Ducks will need both Notre Dame and Florida to lose.

3.  #8 Stanford @ #17 UCLA – Saturday – 5:30pm CST – FOX

Both teams are riding high off of big upsets and if Stanford wins the Cardinals will go to the Pac12 Championship to face…. UCLA in a week later rematch.

2. #4 Florida @ #10 Florida State – Saturday - 2:30pm CST – ABC

This is a big game with potential national implications. The Gators are next in line waiting on a big upset and the Seminoles want to show they’re title worthy. Even if the Seminoles give the Gators an ole fashion butt whoopin it won’t be enough to push the Seminoles into the top 2. The computers hate the Florida State.

1.  #1 Notre Dame @  USC - Saturday – 7pm CST – ABC

The luck of the Irish has been in full effect this year, but will the luck run out? Can Notre Dame survive the Sports Illustrated jinx?  USC will be without quarterback Matt Barkley, but the Trojans backup has promised a win (probably not a smart move).  At the end of the day Notre Dame has found a way to win and that’s what championship team do. I think Notre Dame will win, but the pressure is the X-factor and no one knows how the Irish will handle being number 1.
