A new group is being formed to promote minority-owned businesses in west Alabama.
The Tuscaloosa-based Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama is putting together the Minority Business Council. It's being chaired by Lisa Riley, a loan officer at Accion Alabama Inc.
The chamber says the new group is meant to help with the growth and competitiveness of minority-owned businesses in west Alabama. Leaders hope to provide a network that will perform numerous tasks that include assisting with educational, financial and business concerns.
The chamber assists businesses in Bibb, Fayette, Green, Hale, Lamar, Pickens and Tuscaloosa counties.
