Blog: On the hardwood

By Patrick Pierce

On the hardwood is a weekly college basketball blog recapping and previewing Alabama, Auburn, and UAB men’s basketball.

Alabama (9-6)

What you need to know:

  • The Tide is 1-1 in SEC play after falling on the road to Missouri and beating Tennessee at home over the weekend.
  • Alabama is 219th in offense and it showed in the first half versus Tennessee, but the Tide was able to pick up the intensity in the 2nd half.
  • Next up for the Tide is a Wednesday night 8:00pm matchup with (7-7) Mississippi State on CSS. The Bulldogs are .500 on the year, but 2-0 in conference play.

Stat Leaders:

Trevor Releford is scoring 16.3 points per game.

Moussa Gueye is rebounding 4.5 per game.

Trevor Lacey averages 3.3 assists per game.

Bracket Madness:

The Tide would need to go a big run just to get into the talk for a NIT bid.

Auburn (8-7)

What you need to know:

  • Auburn is a hot team right now winning their last three games including a road win at South Carolina.
  • The Tigers have turned the corner, but this week at Arkansas and hosting Kentucky will really tell us how good this Auburn team is.
  • Next up for the Tigers a road trip to Arkansas on Wednesday 7:00pm on SEC Network

Stat Leaders:

Frankie Sullivan is scoring 17.2 points per game.

Rob Chubb is rebounding 7.6 per game.

Frankie Sullivan averages 3.4 assists per game.

Bracket Madness:

Auburn is starting to build a nice little resume, but they still have a lot of work to do. The Tigers need to win both or at least split this week to order to keep their momentum heading in the right direction.

UAB (8-9)

What you need to know:

  • UAB was once again dominated by Memphis.
  • The Blazers have missed something like a zillion three pointers over the last two games.

Stat Leaders:

Rob Rucker is scoring 14.3 points per game.

Rob Rucker is rebounding 8.4 per games.

Terence Jones averages 4.2 assists per game.

Bracket Madness:

UAB is going backwards and that is never a good thing.
