BCRI celebrates Women's History month through poetry and music

March is Women's History month and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is gearing up for its annual program which celebrates the achievements of women in various forms.

Below is a media release detailing the Institute's The Women Gather event which is scheduled for March 21, 2013.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) will honor Women's History Month with its popular program, "The Women Gather:  An Evening of Poetry and Music" on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 6 pm.  The 2013 program will be held in the Woods Community Meeting Room and includes a tribute to "women of the movement" in honor of the commemoration of the 50 year anniversary of major events in Birmingham's historic civil rights movement.

Local poets and singers to be featured include Shaunteka Curry, Wafiyyah El-Amin, Shirley Ferrill, Wakisha Johnson LaQuita Middleton Holmes, Miquelle Jones, Thelma Scott Nance, Georgette Norman, Sherwanna Wheeler, and Evelyn Dilworth Williams.  Priscilla Hancock Cooper, poet and BCRI Vice President of Institutional Programs, will host the event.  Call 328-9696 x 233 for more information.
