Senior third baseman Kate Armstrong hit her second home run of the year in the bottom of the second frame as UAB topped East Carolina, 2-1, in the televised series finale at the UAB Softball Field.
"Kate had a very good weekend," head coach Marla Townsend said. "The home run she had today was a solid shot and I really can't wait for her to see the video of how great an at bat it was. She did a great job of laying off the pitch prior to that. She made the pitcher bring it up and had a great hit that cut through all the wind."
The Blazers improve to 13-6 on the year and 5-1 in Conference USA action. The Pirates fall to 9-17 and 1-2 in league play.
In the circle for UAB, junior pitcher Lannah Campbell (2-1) threw her first complete game of the year and struck out nine, which matched her career high, originally set in 2011.
