Lane closures on U.S. 78 in Leeds, Al planned for Thursday

Drivers who travel U.S. 78 in Leeds should be aware of scheduled lane closures due to roadway work on Thursday.  The Alabama Department of Transportation says it will perform geotechnical investigations on U.S. 78 over the Little Cahaba River between 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Lane closures are as follows:

• US Highway 78 between Ashville Road NE and Churchill Avenue NE/Harding Street SW, in Leeds.
• Work will begin in the eastbound lane followed by the westbound lane.
• Traffic will be alternated on the remaining open travel lane by flagmen.
• Local police will assist with traffic control.

ALDOT says the geotechnical operation should be completed within the time set aside for the investigation.  The work is dependent on weather conditions and work progress.  In the event of rain on Thursday, March 21, the work will be rescheduled for another day.

 Drivers should consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival and departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.
