BIRMINGHAM, AL -
An investigation is underway to determine whether an unlicensed abortion/reproductive health center is being operated in Birmingham.
The Alabama Department of Public Health reports the probe is regarding New Woman All Women Health Care at 1001 17th Street South.
In March 2012, ADPH initiated license revocation proceedings against the clinic based upon serious violations of the State Board of Health's Rules for Abortion or Reproductive Health Centers.
The clinic's owner, Diane Derzis, later entered into a consent agreement with ADPH to close and surrender its license on May 18, 2012.
Since that time, ADPH has denied two applications for license to operate an abortion/reproductive health center at that same location.
Also Tuesday, the Life Legal Defense Foundation (LLDF), held a news conference near the clinic's property to demand the ADPH do more to investigate the clinic.
