Behind a career-high 29 points from Tyrese Tanner, the Auburn women's basketball team defeated UAB, 80-57, Wednesday at Auburn Arena in the first round of the WNIT.
The Tigers will move on to face the winner of Western Kentucky vs. East Carolina in the second round. The Hilltoppers and Pirates face off at 7 p.m., Thursday night in Bowling Green, Ky.
"It was definitely a better second half than the first half, but that's really to be expected having had a week off for spring break," Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. "I thought they really came back in the second half and just played with a lot of intensity and great effort, especially in our press."
Tyrese Tanner led Auburn in scoring with 29 points, while Blanche Alverson and Peyton Davis each added 11. Chelsee Black led UAB with 15 points, while Karisma Chapman and Amber Jones finished with 10 apiece.
The Tigers scored 30 points off 23 forced turnovers and outscored the Blazers, 53-35, in the second half. It was the most points scored in a single half by Auburn this season.
