BIRMINGHAM, AL -

Several people, including children, are hurt, after a sign fell on them at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

Alabama's 13 News Digital Journalists Jon Paepcke and Paris Jackson are at the airport, and report a flight display sign at the airport fell on a woman and four children.

All were injured, and there is no word on the extent of their injuries.

The woman was taken to UAB Hospital, and the children were transported to Childrens Hospital.

The incident happened about 1:30pm CT inside the new terminal, that recently opened to the public.

The flight display sign that fell off a wall is located pre-security, inside the new terminal lobby.

Birmingham Mayor William Bell issued this statement Friday afternoon:

"I have offered our full support to the Airport Authority as they investigate what has occurred this afternoon. I have asked our public safety staff to assist this family in their time of need in any way possible as grabble with what has happened." Mayor William Bell.
