Senior center fielder Whitney Fletcher hit a two-out triple in the top of the seventh inning, and ran home on a Memphis error to tie game two at four runs apiece before the Blazers came back to win, 6-4, on Saturday at the Tiger Softball Complex.
"I am happy for the girls, but most of all I am so proud of their resilience," head coach Marla Townsend said. "We had a couple challenges with that second game. Obviously things weren't going the way we wanted, we weren't getting calls, but we tried. When we finally got to the halfway point of the game, I told the girls to just win the second half, and we did."
Senior right fielder Chandler Orr and junior third baseman Megan McGrath hit back to back home runs in the top of the eighth inning to give the Blazers the runs they needed to get the win.
In game one, UAB recorded seven runs on seven hits, including a home run by senior catcher Anna Kimbrell to defeat Memphis, 7-5.
After two games, UAB is 17-7 on the year with a record of 7-1 in Conference USA action, while Memphis is 14-19 with a 3-5 mark in league play.
The Blazers will go for their second series sweep of conference play on Sunday.
