Weather permitting, blasting operations will continue Wednesday a 1:30 p.m. on I-65 north of downtown Birmingham as The Alabama Department of Transportation continues work to connect Corridor X to I-65 in Jefferson County.
ALDOT spokesperson Linda Crockett says, via a news release, that a rolling roadblock by Alabama State Troopers and the City of Fultondale police will slow I-65 traffic northbound and southbound between the Fieldstown Interchange (Exit 271) and Daniel Payne Drive (Exit 264).
The operation will also be affect US-31 southbound and northbound traffic from Ellard Road to the US-31 southbound on ramp to I-65 until blasting is complete. ALDOT says the operation should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. In the event of inclement weather, blasting will not take place.
Once completed, Corridor X will be an interstate highway between Birmingham and Memphis. The scheduled completion date on the project is 2014.
ALDOT also says a reduced speed limit of 45 mph is in effect throughout the work zone. Drivers are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.
