The first spring practice of 2013 is in the books for the Auburn Tigers. Working out two hours on a crisp spring morning Wednesday at the Auburn Athletics Practice Fields, the Tigers went through a number of non-contact drills in shorts for their first team practice of the Coach Gus Malzahn era.
"First of all, it's great to be back on the practice field with our team and our new coaches out there," said Malzahn after practice. "A lot of excitement, a lot of flying around -- I told our team at the very end the main thing is we just have to learn how to practice at the pace, the intensity, the tempo both offensively and defensively.
"The Xs and Os will come, but our main focus now is to learn how to practice and being able to process things by practicing fast.
"It's about learning how to line up correctly, learning how to process information, having great body language and hustling – it's all of that. We will get better each day at that. When it's an individual drill, we're going to slow down, but when we're in a team setting, we're going to be flying around."
Auburn returns to the practice field Friday morning for its second of 14 practices before A-Day on Saturday, April 20. A-Day will kick off at 1 p.m. CT at Jordan-Hare Stadium. View complete information for all the events surrounding A-Day and purchase tickets at AuburnTigers.com/aday.
