Savannah State pitcher Kyle McGowin outdueled the Blazers Saturday afternoon to take game two of the weekend series, 5-1. The rubber match between the Blazers and Tigers will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT at Young Memorial Field.
It was a pitcher's duel early with Savannah State (18-13) holding a slim 2-0 lead through four innings but the Tigers scored once in the fifth and two in the seventh to break the game open.
Tanner Bryant (2-3) suffered the loss for the Blazers, surrendering four runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts over 6.1 innings.
McGowin pitched six scoreless
innings for the Tigers, allowing four hits, three walks, and striking out five
to improve to 8-0 on the season.
UAB (14-16) missed out on a couple opportunities to take an early lead. John Frost was stranded at third after hitting a two out triple to straight away center in the bottom of the first and the Blazers put two on in the second with two outs but couldn't come up with the timely hit to score a run.
