Suspects wanted in Vestavia Hills theft case

Authorities in Vestavia Hills are searching for a man suspected in a home improvement scam.

The Vestavia Hills Police Department reports Bill Braxton, 37, of North Augusta, SC, has a felony warrant for Theft of Property  1 in Jefferson County.

Braxton is also wanted in South Carolina.

The VHPD reports on March 29, 2013, Braxton and two accomplices approached an elderly resident in reference to "refinishing" her asphalt driveway.

In about 30 minutes, the suspects painted some glossy black substance on the driveway and demanded $9,000 in payment from the victim.

The victim said she felt pressured into writing the check, which Braxton cashed at a local bank.

The accomplices were two men, in a white, 4-door truck, with a flat bed and hydraulic pump on the back.
