The Birmingham City Council honored 46 Foot Soldiers who traveled with the Civil Rights Activist Committee to Washington, D.C. in January.
The Foot Soldiers traveled to the Nation's Capitol to watch President Barack Obama take his second oath of office.
The resolution commending the civil rights activists reads in part: "Immediately, following the oath, some of the Foot Soldiers began to cry, some danced, some prayed and some just stood in silence with their eyes lifted toward heaven."
The adults were accompanied by so called "young foot soldiers," to participate in the festivities.
The proclamation was issued by Birmingham's Mayor William Bell.
