UAB HealthSmart urges minority blood donations today
The University of Alabama Birmingham's UAB HealthSmart Clinic is urging minorities to donate blood.
On Wednesday, April 10th, HealthSmart will hold a lunch and learn health talk addressing the importance of blood donations from minorities. This free event will feature discussion lead by Michelle R. Brown who is an assistant professor in the UAB School of Health Professions, Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
According to clinic, data from the Mayo Clinic highlights that only 5 percent of eligible donors across the nation donate blood, but the number of transfusions nationwide increases by 9 percent every year.
HealthSmart reminds that when giving blood, a donor will receive a mini physical that will check pulse, blood pressure, and body temperature and hemoglobin levels.
Give blood and feel good knowing you've helped change a life.
Those who are interested are asked to call 996-2304 to reserve lunch and a seat.
There is an upcoming blood drive scheduled at HealthSmart in April.
The LifeSouth Blood Drive at HealthSmart will take place on Wednesday, April 17th 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
One Donation Can Save Up To Three Lives! You will receive free juice and cookies, a free T-shirt, and a free cholesterol screening
The UAB HealthSmart Clinic is located on 301 20th Street North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203.
