It is Monday, April 15, 2013 and Uncle Sam is looking for your tax documents. Whether you decide to file electronically or drop your signed tax papers in the mail, the Internal Revenue Service estimates that 50 million people nationwide will file at the last minute.
If you've already filed your taxes, you're one of at least 97 million taxpayers who have submitted returns to according to the IRS filing statistics. At least 90 percent of those who have already filed submitted their returns electronically this year.
If you're simply not ready to file, you can always file the 4868 extension form but you have to file the extension by today, April 15th. Tax filing experts remind that the IRS will give tax filers a grace period until October 15 to complete their paperwork done. However, even with an extension approval you must still pay what you owe. An extension doesn't mean an extension of time to pay. If you are approved an extension also keep in mind you will still owe interest on any tax owed that is not paid by the regular due date.
