The Birmingham Barons dropped their series opener against the Chattanooga Lookouts 7-4 Monday night in front of 4,427 fans at AT&T Field.
The Lookouts jumped out to an early 3-0 lead against Barons starter Nestor Molina (0-1, 7.30), getting an RBI single by Yasiel Puig and sacrifice fly's by Blake Smith and C.J. Retherford in the first.
Molina would settle in, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings but had to be removed in the fourth with an apparent shoulder injury.
With the lookouts leading 6-0 in the 7th, the Barons offense showed signs of life in loading the bases for Keenyn Walker who delivered with a bases clearing triple. Walker would score later in the inning on a wild pitch by reliever Ryan Acosta.
The Barons were unable to mount a further rally as they fell for the first time in six games. The win went to Lookouts starter Zach Lee (2-0, 1.06) who shutout the Barons over 6.0 innings on just five hits. Yimi Garcia retired the final three batters for his second save of the season.
Andy Wilkins and Walker both finished with two hits apiece for the Barons while Tyler Saladino stole his league-leading fifth base.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 7-4 on the year while Chattanooga improved to 4-7.
