Down to their last strike, the Birmingham Barons rallied to score two runs in the ninth
inning, defeating the Chattanooga Lookouts 4-3 in front of 4,226 fans at AT&T Park.
Trailing 3-2 with two outs in the ninth and runners at first and third, Michael Blanke lined a two-strike pitch to
left field, scoring Cody Puckett and Mike Earley who was running on the play. Closer Taylor Thompson (1-0,
0.00) recorded the final seven outs of the game in picking up his first win of the season.
The Barons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second when Tyler Saladino crushed a two-run home run to
left, scoring Brandon Short who had reached base on a double. The home run was Saladino's second of the
season and first since his Opening Day Grand Slam on April 10th.
The Lookouts would claw back to take the lead with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Gorman
Erickson tied the game in the fifth with a solo home run against Barons starter Spencer Arroyo. The Lookouts
would take a 3-2 lead in the sixth when Joc Pederson stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the
catcher Blanke. He would atone for the error in the ninth and finished the night 2-for-4.
INF Marcus Semien extended his team-best hitting streak to nine games with a first inning single. Also of note,
INF Dan Wagner stole his fifth base of the season in the fifth inning, tying him for the league lead with
teammate Trayce Thompson. The Barons lead the league in steals this season with 19.
The Barons and Lookouts have a quick turnaround as they will face off in the third game of their five games
series tomorrow morning starting at 10:15 AM CDT. RHP
