Some Alabama students put their auto repair skills to the test Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, AL -

Some future auto mechanics showed off their talents Wednesday in an auto skills competition.

Twenty high school juniors and seniors from 10 schools in Alabama took part in the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition, held at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham.

The students raced against the clock to correctly identify and repair intentionally installed "bugs" in identical Ford vehicles.

After finding the problem and repairing the vehicle, teammates must drive their Ford across the finish line, where their work was judged.

The final rankings were as follows:

  2. GADSDEN HIGH SCHOOL
  3. HALEYVILLE CENTER OF TECHNOLOGY
  4. BLOUNT CO. CAREER TECHNOLOGY CENTER
  5. ETOWAH CO. CAREER TECHNOLOGY CENTER
  6. AUTAUGA CO. TECHNOLOGY CENTER
  7. LAWRENCE CO. CENTER OF TECHNOLOGY
  8. DOTHAN TECHNOLOGY CENTER
  9. RUSSELLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

10. RUSSELL CO. HIGH SCHOOL

The winning team will represent Alabama at the National Finals on June 11, 2013, at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
