More than 3,000 people are expected to spend their Thursday lunch break walking. They are attending Blue Cross and Blue Shield's National Walk at Lunch Day at Linn Park during their break.
The national walk first began seven years ago in response to American employees not having enough time in their day to exercise. Thirty minutes of moderate physical activity five times a week can lower the risk of developing chronic health conditions like type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.
The health insurance company says it is committed to helping Alabamians lead healthier lifestyles, which could mean lower healthcare costs.
You can join the walk today at 11:00 a.m. at Linn Park. Each walk will take place every 30 minutes.
