Countdown to Talladega: Bobby Allison - WVTM-TV Birmingham, AL

Countdown to Talladega: Bobby Allison

Posted: Updated:

We continue our countdown to the waving of the green flag in the Aarons 499.

Racing legend and Alabama Gang member Bobby Allison stopped by the Alabama Tonight studios this afternoon (click video link above).

Allison was born and raised in Miami, Florida, but would move his family to Alabama because it was more profitable to be a racecar driver. "The purses were so bad down in South Florida" Allison said. "In fact throughout Florida, you had to pretty much go north of Florida before they began to get a little better. So to make a living you still had to have a job, so I took a chance and came to Alabama". This would lead to famously known Alabama Gang.

Bobby Allison is one of the all time greats. He was the 1983 Winston Cup Series Champion. During his over twenty year career Allison won 85 times (84 official) including 3 victories in the Daytona 500. Bobby Allison is also a member of the Nascar Hall of Fame.
