ADAMSVILLE, AL -

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office are investigating a shooting that occurred last night in Adamsville.

According to the JCSO, deputies responded at 12:15 a.m. to a home in the 5300 block of Shady Crest Road to investigate a reported shooting.

The JCSO says the female homeowner was walking her dog outside when she saw a man coming toward her. After warning that she was armed, he continued to approach her. She fired the gun, and the man collapsed at the end of her driveway.

The Jefferson County Coroner identified the man this afternoon as Demetrius Thompson, 21, of Pratt City.

JCSO says it's a little to early to call the shooting self defense because they're still looking at all the evidence.

"We've got a lot of footwork to do and we've got make sure that story matches the evidence. and the evidence in the story matches the medical examiners report and we have not gotten that back yet,"says Randy Christian, JCSO's Chief Deputy.

Thompson's friend Kelien Gardner,20, says he can't believe his friend is no longer here. He says he's seen the female homeowner walk her dog around midnight before.

"He's just a real humble dude. we would of never thought that this would happen to him in this rural area over here. because nothing like that ever happen around here," Gardner said.

Gardner says he's hoping justice is served and charges will be filed against the woman.

The investigation remains ongoing and no suspects have been identified in the case.
