Many people are upset that a staple in the music community may have to close its doors.
Gip's Place is a juke joint in Bessemer. Musical artists and music lovers have been going there for 52 years. City leaders said Gip's Place is too small for its following, and that it needs to be in a placed zoned for commercial business.
Henry "Gip" Gipson said people come to his juke joint to forget their problems and find the love in the music.
"People have come here for this many years, and they know what love is about after they find it. They know that there is no color here. They believe that because it's been going on too long," Gipson said.
Last week, police shut down Gip's Place. Gipson said he doesn't plan on moving, and that the city may have to come out every Saturday night and shut down his place.
