Family, friends "still holding on to hope" in search of Talladega Superspeedway for missing Georgia man

Posted: Updated:

A group of nearly 20 family, friends and coworkers are combing the Talladega Superspeedway grounds for signs of Nick Bower, a Georgia man who disappeared there last weekend.

"Were struggling. We're exhausted, but we're never giving up," said Jennifer Boesch, Bower's girlfriend.

According to Bridget Chambers, Bower's sister, the group started searching on foot this morning at 9 a.m. in the South Park area, in the heavy wooded portion. It's there where Bower was last seen late Saturday night, camping with his girlfriend and friends during the Aaron's 499 race weekend.

Authorities previously searched the West Lot and came up empty handed, so the group moved back to the South Park Friday.

"We're trying to keep hopeful that you know, if we don't find something that means he is somewhere. Maybe has lost his memory or has all of his belongings with him still," Chambers said.

She says the entire group, coupled with police, are going to start at opposite ends and meet in the middle again during the ground search.

"We're just just covering every area that cannot be covered by ATV or boat. Just the real dense wooded areas that can only be covered on foot. So everybody is splitting up and walking through those areas," Chambers said.

The Talladega Sheriff's Office says the weather will determine if they search this weekend.
