A local woman is making it her mission to combat cancer.
Misti Easter started the charity, "Countdown to 40," to benefit childhood cancer.
"I will be turning 40 on November 6, 2013…so, in lieu of gifts, well-wishes or parties, I am asking people to donate money to this charity," said Easter. "I started this charity after undergoing cancer treatment in 2011/2012 after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I met a beautiful, inspiring young girl named Trinitie when I was undergoing radiation treatment in Birmingham. Trinitie was diagnosed in January, 2012, with a brain tumor known as Glioblastoma - she was diagnosed at stage 4. Meeting Trinitie opened my eyes to this cause and I knew I wanted to do something special in order to make a difference…even if it's just a "small" difference."
Easter said she will be donating 100% of the proceeds that are raised for "Countdown to 40" to childhood cancer research, families who are unable to pay medical bills incurred when their child underwent cancer treatment and gifts and necessities to childhood cancer treatment centers for them to give to the children who are undergoing treatment.
Easter said the community can help by making a donation. "Any sum of money, big or small, would be GREATLY appreciated! Just think…if 5,000 people gave $5.00 to this cause that would be a total of $25,000.00 raised! How awesome would that be??!! I have a "Countdown to 40" account set up at Merchants Bank in Cullman, Alabama."
