A Birmingham native is competing in the Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, CO this week.
Army Sgt. Delvin L. Maston is competing in the 2013 Warrior Games. He will be playing sit volleyball, field events, wheelchair basketball, and swimming.
This is Maston's third time competing in the Warrior Games.
He says he competes to send a positive message to others.
"Even though we have adversities, we still get out there, and still do the same things we used to do, just a little bit different," Maston said.
Maston was involved in a hit and run accident in 2009 while he was home on leave. A woman was texting and driving, and subsequently, Maston lost his right leg above the knee because of the accident.
He says he feels privileged to attend the Warrior Games.
"I feel like as if I'm the luckiest guy in the world. A lot of people want to be here and I was selected to be here three years in a row so it's a big deal to me that people see something in me and see that I'm special enough to be here," Maston said.
The Warrior Games will go on the rest of the week in Colorado Springs, CO.
