Parents of some Birmingham City School students will have an opportunity to learn more about the planned school consolidations.
In March, the Birmingham City School Board voted to close seven schools and reconfigure 11 others in the school system. The plan is expected to save the Birmingham City School System $5.8 million.
Tonight, school officials will hold a community meeting for parents and other stakeholders. The meeting will address the relocation of kindergarten through fifth-grade students to the new Oxmoor Valley Elementary school. The community meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium of Jones Valley K-8 School.
Oxmoor Valley Elementary School is scheduled to open in August of this year.
