BLOUNT COUNTY, AL -

The former chief of a Blount County fire department has been arrested for allegedly stealing fire department funds.

According to Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey, the State Fire Marshal's Office arrested Michael Claude Watson of Warrior on Monday.

The arrest came after the Fire Marshal's office investigated the use of fire department funds while Watson was chief of the Bangor Fire Department.

He is charged with two counts of first degree theft of property for using fire department funds to allegedly pay for cell phones for his family, computers, printers, and other electronics for personal use.

Watson is also charged with second degree theft of property for writing himself a check using fire department funds for reimbursement for property that was never purchased.

Watson is being held at the Blount County Correctional Facility in lieu of $90,000 bond.
