A Birmingham doctor comments about Angelina Jolie's decision to remove her breasts to help avoid cancer.
Dr. Helen Krontiras is the co-director of the Breast Health Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Krontiras commented Tuesday, after news came that Jolie decided to have a double mastectomy as a preventive measure to breast cancer.
Jolie has a gene that gives her an 87% chance of getting breast cancer.
Dr. Krontiras of UAB says cases of a person having that gene are rare, and women who have that gene have several options.
