Three years after being taken in the first round of the NFL draft a physically-healthy Rolando McClain is retiring.

Baltimore Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome made that announcement today.

The former Alabama All-American and Butkus Award winner as the best linebacker in the country was picked 8th overall by the Oakland Raiders in the 2009 NFL draft. McClain was cut after last season.

McClain signed a one year deal with the Super Bowl Champions Baltimore Ravens last month, but was arrested ten days later in Decatur, Al on a disorderly conduct charge. He was also arrested in Decatur, Al on an assault charge in 2011.

In three year in the NFL McClain had 274 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
