Birmingham BOE vote on changes to Jones Valley K-8

BIRMINGHAM, AL -

The Birmingham Board of Education met in a special called session Wednesday evening. The session was called to discuss and vote on a motion to make Jones Valley K-8 strictly a middle school.

In a vote of 5 to 3, the Board of Education voted to pass the motion.

This change will send K-5 students currently attending Jones Valley to the new Oxmoor Elementary School starting in the fall. Officials with the school system say these changes will help ease the overcrowding at Jones Valley K-8.

Oxmoor Elementary School is a new school that will house Kindergarten through Fifth grade students. The school is set to open in August.
