The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is taking parts in the 50 years forward commemoration, along with the city of Birmingham.
Workers are doing their part to educate the community about the civil rights movement and that continues this morning.
The BCRI is promoting an event for the Juneteenth celebration.
As many know, Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.
The event will be held today at Kelly Ingram Park from 11-8 p.m.
The event is free.
According to its website, BCRI's celebration not only focuses on African American freedom, but also celebrates liberty and justice for all cultures with live music, food vendors, contests and free admission to BCRI's permanent exhibitions. The celebration culminates on Sunday, June 3rd with a worship service at the historic Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, also located in the Civil Rights District."
