A new effort is underway to educate Alabamians about diabetes.
The Cities for Life program kicked off Jefferson County Thursday.
It's a program that works to educate residents on diabetes management and prevention.
Kicking off the event was Dr. Andrea Cherrington, Associate Professor in the UAB Division of Preventive Medicine.
UAB is a partner in the project, and she explained the need for more education and how area libraries play a critical role in providing it in the community through diabetes programs for both teens and adults, diabetes screenings, and even healthy cooking events.
Diabetes screenings will be available during the event.
The Public Libraries in Jefferson County is also a supporter.
