U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance has asked a federal judge to dismiss one of 10 defendants from a drug trafficking conspiracy indictment.
Prosecutors filed the motion in U.S. District Court to dismiss Dealdre Murrell, 27, of Birmingham, from an April 25 indictment. The motion seeks to drop charges of conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine, and three counts of using a telephone to facilitate drug trafficking against Murrell.
Murrell had been arrested with nine other suspects following an investigation by the FBI, the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. The 10 defendants were arrested in May for running a large-scale heroin and cocaine distribution network in western Birmingham and Jefferson County.
