Mississippi used a four-run fourth inning to defeat the Birmingham Barons 4-1 in the rubber match of their five game series in front of 2,311 fans at Trustmark Park.
The Barons took a brief 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI groundout by Trayce Thompson. It would be the lone run scored by the Barons' offense on the night as Aaron Northcraft (3-5, 3.86) settled into a groove, allowing just four hits over 6.0 IP.
The M-Braves would put the game away in the fourth thanks to a bases-clearing triple by Edward Salcedo. Jaime Pedroza would tack on an RBI single later in the inning as the Braves took a 4-1 lead over starter Michael Nix (0-1, 7.20). Nix was making his first start since being transferred from Triple-A Charlotte earlier on the weekend.
The Barons mustered just five hits on the night, including two apiece by Michael Earley and Dan Wagner. The loss dropped the Barons to 46-29 on the season and 2-3 in the second half while giving the M-Braves a series victory in the opening series of the second half.
