A former Homewood Middle School coach and elementary special education aide was sentenced to more than eight years in prison for possession of child pornography.
Joshua David Statum, 26, of Pelham, allegedly possessed 1,875 images of child pornography in 2011 and 2012. He pleaded guilty to the charges in March.
Statum allegedly shared videos on a peer-to-peer file-sharing program, including one of a 12-year-old girl and another showing a 5-year-old girl
The government's sentencing memorandum stated that he was viewing and sharing child pornography while working with children.
"This defendant did not just look at a few images once in his life, but used file sharing computer technology to distribute images of prepubescent children being sodomized and raped and also to possess thousands of images of children be similarly exploited," the memorandum said.
After his release, Statum will be required to serve five years of supervised release.
