Two men are in custody and property has been recovered after an eastern Jefferson County home was burglarized Monday evening.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a burglary call in the 5600 block of Rex Lake Road. The victim said he returned home to find his side door broken and items including firearms, lawn equipment and a utility trailer stolen from his home.
The two men were reportedly seen around the home during the day and left in a blue Ford Explorer.
The next day, a detective visited the residence to investigate the scene. After he left the scene, Irondale Police said they had a man detained on a traffic stop that could be the suspect.
At the scene of the traffic stop, the detective found items that had been taken in the burglary -- the suspect was even wearing shoes stolen from the victim.
The suspect admitted that he and another man committed the burglary, as well as selling the stolen property.
The second suspect was identified and questioned Wednesday, who admitted to selling the items but said he wasn't involved in the burglary.
Dustin Craig Phillips, 29, of Fultondale, was charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property. He's being held in the Jefferson County Jail pending $12,500 bond.
Larry Wayne Leatherwood, 38, of Warrior, was also charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property. He's being held in the Jefferson County Jail pending $20,000 bond.
