The Barons dropped their second game in two nights against the Jackson Generals, falling by a score of 5-3 in front of 1,123 fans at Generals Park.
For the second night in a row, the Generals jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first on RBI singles by James Jones and Ji-Man Choi against starter Nick McCully (7-2, 2.63). McCully would settle in from there, throwing five consecutive scoreless innings while allowing the Barons to get within a run at 2-1 on an RBI single by Marcus Semien in the third.
McCully would be lifted from the game after watching two of the first three batters reach base in the seventh. His replacement, Salvador Sanchez, would surrender an RBI single to Gabriel Noriega, a sacrifice fly to Leon Landry and a run scoring double by Chris Taylor to take a 5-1 lead.
Generals starter Roenis Elias (4-7, 2.96) was masterful over 6.0 IP, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out seven.
With Elias out of the game, the Barons would claw back in the top of the 8th with two runs of their own on an RBI double by Trayce Thompson and a run scoring hit by Dan Black to close the lead to 5-3. However, they were unable to complete the comeback, falling to 50-32 on the season and 6-6 in the second half.
McCully took his first loss since his first appearance of the season on April 6th, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 6.1 IP.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 14-31 against the Generals in Jackson since 2008.
