JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL -

The first recreational site for the newly launched "Cahaba Blueway" was announced, Wednesday morning.

The "Moon River Canoe launch" will be located on U.S. 78 between Irondale and Leeds.

Partners expect the project to draw a large number of outdoor enthusiasts.

Alabama Power Foundation contributed $30,000 to the initiative.

The Blueway is a "comprehensive canoe trail running through Central Alabama."

The waterway is meant to increase the "educational, recreational and eventually economic opportunity and visibility of the Cahaba River."

The newly announced trail will add to the first of 26 sites, stretching over more than 190 miles of rivers and tributaries.

The "Red Rock Ridge" and "Valley Trail System," now under construction across Jefferson County will tie in with the new Blueway.
