If you travel through the Birmingham area, be prepared for a change to your commute starting this coming Monday.
The Alabama Department of Transportation says I-20 Westbound will be shut down, from Leeds to Birmingham. The closure includes Exit 136 to Exit 130. ALDOT says it'll possibly be closed for the next three months for pavement reconstruction.
The closure may seem familiar because it's the same stretch that was closed on the eastbound side for the past few months.
Motorists are encouraged to take I-459 North to Exit 33-A to I-59 South.
About 74,000 vehicles travel this section of the interstate each day. The concrete and asphalt have worn out due to the heavy volume of traffic, and heavy loads carried by big trucks.
The $38.6 million project is expected to be complete by early winter.
