BIRMINGHAM, AL -

A large pothole has left many cars with tire damage in Birmingham on this July 4th holiday.

The hole is located in the center lane on Interstate 20/59 going northbound, near the Red Mountain Expressway exit.

The pothole is located on the interstate bridge.

Alabama's 13 News crews counted at least 13 vehicles with tire damage.

Most of the victims of the pothole stopped at the 31st Street exit.

Birmingham Police officers have closed the lane, and are diverting traffic.

The pothole is about 5 feet wide, and our news crew says you can see directly through the hole to the ground.
